Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) was established in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in 1984 by Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust, established by the academic visionary Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan. It is a deemed-to-be university. The university has been ranked 66th under the University by NIRF in 2023. Additionally, the university ranks 1501+ in the Times Higher Education Rankings 2024 and 189th in Southern Asia by QS World Rankings 2024. It has four institutions Sree Balaji College of Nursing, Chennai, Sree Balaji College of Physiotherapy, Chennai, Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), Chennai and Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SLIMS), Puducherry.
