The National Institute of Technology, Silchar was founded in 1967 as a Regional Engineering College in Assam and is one of India’s 31 National Institutes of Technology. NIT Silchar is an autonomous institute under the Indian government. The National Institutes of Technology Act of 2007 declared it as an Institute of National Importance after it was upgraded to the rank of National Institute of Technology in 2002. It is located 12 kilometers from Silchar, Assam. In the NIRF Ranking 2023, NIT Silchar ranked 83rd overall and 40th in the engineering category. NIT Silchar provides 37 courses in 13 departments in science, engineering, architecture, and management.
