Meenakshi College for Women

Free medical care is provided to the neighbourhood community through the KRS Medical Centre located in the campus. Needy people from the neighbourhood regularly use this facility. All medical services including medicines are provided free. The college has health center with first aid facility for the students.

The main library of the college, called Sri Bharathi Theertha Library is the cynosure of all eyes. Spread over about 10,000 square feet, the library is home to about 47,000 books. Endowed with a mezzanine floor that houses a portion of the library’s book racks, the library is centrally air-conditioned and provides a lovely ambience to sit and read. There is also an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) that visitors to the library can use to know the availability of books. Internet facility is also available in the library if students wish to browse for information. INFLIBNET’s N-LIST programme which gives access to more than 50,000 e-Books and more than 1,200 e-Journals.

The College believes in empowering women through holistic education by its systematic and focused course of action. The college has laid platform for numerous talents of our students. The students actively participate in the Inter department sports competitions every year in Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Kabaddi, Throwball, Cricket, Shuttle Badminton, Ball Badminton, Carom and Chess.

The Department of English has an air-conditioned, Hi-Tech Language Lab, that can accommodate more than 100 students. It has a console, a monitor and a television for viewing. All the undergraduate students who take up foundation English have an access to the LanguageLab.

There is a College Canteen and also a smaller cafeteria called Byte Inn for the convenience of the large number of students on campus. Both the cafeteria offer a variety of delicious fare to students, staff and visitors.

Meenakshi Sundararajan auditorium can seat more than 3000 people. Built with excellent acoustic facilities and audio control room, this auditorium has a balcony area and two green rooms attached. Complete with 30 centralized air-conditioning units, the auditorium, which is situated in the third floor of the building, is the pride of Meenakshi College. KRS auditorium located in the ground floor of the college building and has a seating capacity of about 500. The large wooden stage, the tastefully done decor and the air-conditioning provide an enchanting ambience. Many a college function and seminar is held here. The audio facilities and seating capacity make it an ideal choice for special functions in college as well as staff and student meetings. Homi Bhabha seminar hall can accommodate about 300 people and has a raised stage with a convenient head table, marble flooring, and prettily done lighting. The seminar hall is fully air-conditioned and boasts of a ceiling-mounted LCD projector and a retractable on-stage screen for the same and many more like Albert Einstein Seminar Hall, Open-air Theatre, Seminar Hall 1,2 and Conference Halls.

The college has a good networking for alumni association.

The Central Computing Facility of the college is named Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Computer Center and is spread across a beautifully furnished 7500 sq. ft. area on the second floor of the College building. The Computer Center houses state-of-the-art computing facilities and is a pride of the college. Apart from this Computer Center, there are two other Computer Laboratories, connected to the Computer Center through optical fibre cable.

There is a Xerox and printing & binding facility on campus for the student and staff needs. The facility also doubles up as a stationery store for students and staff.

Sri Sharada Kripa Guest House is a spacious two-storeyed bungalow located in the campus to the east of the college building. It is completely furnished with a kitchen, living room and eight bedrooms with attached bathrooms. It is used to accomodate special guests to the college. The college has two guest rooms in the ground floor of the college building. Each is well-furnished with a refrigerator, television, dining table, bed and attached bathroom. Special Quarters located in the first floor of the college building, these quarters have an exclusive access route through an elevator. The facility has a living room, kitchen, two large bedrooms with ante-rooms and attached bathrooms, a kitchen, wash area and a puja room. The use of these special quarters is reserved for VIP guests to the college.
