Established in 1987 under the Act of Bihar Government, Nalanda Open University (NOU) is a state university located in Bihar. The University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of HRD, Government of India and Distance Education Bureau (DEB), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi since 1997 for imparting education via open and distance mode of learning (ODL). NOU is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), International Council of Open and Distance Education (ICDE) and Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) for improvement and up-gradation of its courses at the international level. NOU has 220 study centres dedicated to the distance education of the students. NOU operates 10 schools offering over 105 courses at UG, PG, certificate and PhD levels across 10 streams.
