Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith (also known as MGKVP Varanasi) is a state-level university that was established in 1921. The university is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It has three campuses, namely Gangapur campus, NTPC campus and Bhairav Talab campus. Apart from these campuses, the university has 10 faculties, four constituent institutes and over 30 departments at its Varanasi campus.

It also has more than 350 affiliated colleges spread over six districts, namely Varanasi, Chandauli, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra and Ballia. MGKVP offers several degree, diploma and certificate programmes in multiple streams, such as Management, Science, Fine Arts and more. Not only this, some of the popular alumni of MGKVP include Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Kamlapati Tripathi, Raja Ram Shastri and more.

Courses & Fees

The MGKVP Varanasi admission is determined by the candidate’s academic performance from their last qualifying examination. Along with this, the university conducts its own entrance examination, followed by a counselling process on the basis of which final admission to MGKVP Varanasi is granted. All the candidates irrespective of their category (Unreserved/ Reserved) have to adhere to the eligibility criteria stated by the university to proceed with the MGKVP admission process. The eligibility criteria is different for Certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral level programmes. The minimum percentage of marks required also differs for Unreserved and Reserved category students. Once candidates meet the MGKVP admission criteria, they will be able to move forward with the application process. After this candidates have to sit for the MGKVP Entrance Test and get shortlisted for the counselling conducted by the university, as these will ultimately determine the MGKVP admission 2023.

MGKVP Varanasi scholarships are provided to the students on a need and merit basis. The scholarships are offered by the Uttar Pradesh Government, United States-India Educational Foundation and Public Financial Management Systems (PFMS). The Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith scholarships include social welfare, welfare for the underprivileged, tribal welfare, welfare for minorities, financial assistance for female students, backward class candidates, merit-cum-means scholarships and many more. Aside from this, Fullbright Fellowships are offered to Master’s students as a part of the MGKVP scholarship scheme for students wanting to pursue higher studies at a US-based institution.

The scholarships and financial help provided by Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith Varanasi are the following:

National Means cum Merit Scholarship: This scholarshipis offered by the PFMS to MGKVP students, it provides a scholarship amount of Rs 6000 per year.

Scholarship to Universities and College Students: For the first three years of college and university courses, the rate of the scholarship is Rs 1000 at the graduation level, and Rs 2000 a month at the post-graduate level. In their fourth and fifth years of study for professional courses, students receive Rs 2000 per month. It can be availed by the students of MGKVP.

National Scheme for Incentive for the Girl Child: A scholarship amount of Rs 3000 will be provided to the female students of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith Varanasi, once.

Post-Matric Scholarship for SC Category Students: Offered to students with a family income of Rs 2.5 lakh. The scholarship will cover maintenance allowance, reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees, study tour charges, thesis typing/printing charges, book allowance, book bank facility, and additional allowance for students with disabilities, for the complete course duration.

Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC Category Students: Provided to MGKVP Varanasi students from the Other Backward Class (OBC) category with a family income of Rs 1.5 lakh per annum.

Upgradation of Merit of SC Category Students: This MGKVP Varanasi scholarship will cover a package of Rs 25,000 thousand per student per year. Rs 15,000 per student per year as under: Boarding & Lodging charges of Rs 900 pm for 10 months; Pocket Money of Rs 300 for 10 months; Books and Stationery of Rs 3,000, along with Rs 10,000 per year per student for honorarium to Principal, Experts and other incidental costs.

Facilities & Infrastructure

• Library

  The University’s central library of the university is situated in the middle of the university campus and the total area in the library of both floors is 2250sq. meter. At present, it has a total collection of 2,34,701 documents. It also contains a section of unpublished theses. The collected information material has been organized discipline-wise in multistoried stacks. Organization of Collections: Books are basically organized by the 19th edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme on the iron racks on the ground floor of the library. Textbooks: The user community of the academic library consists mostly the students, teachers, and research scholars. The academic courses require various sets of prescribed textbooks, therefore the library maintains a separate collection of books, so a large number of students may use and share their requisite information. Reference Books: The library has a good collection of reference tools, such as encyclopedias, handbooks, directories, and yearbooks, which are secondary or derived sources of information. These collections are continuously updated with tools & supplements to old ones, to give only the latest on the subject.

• Boys Hostel

  The University has a boy’s hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.

• Girls Hostel

  The University has a girl’s hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.

• Cafeteria

  The University has a canteen facility for staff and students.

• I.T Infrastructure

  The University has an excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students.

• Guest Room/Waiting Room

  The University has guest house/waiting room facilities for visiting faculty and student family members.

• Medical/Hospital

  The university has a health center with a first aid facility for the students.

• Alumni Associations

  The University has Alumni Association was formed and the office bearers of it were nominated/elected in the meeting. It will very helpful for the current and outgoing batch as the alumni will be very helpful in placement and training.

• Wifi

  The University has a campus that has free wi-fi to cater to the needs of Students.

  The University has sports facilities for all students. At the Regional, State, and National levels university sports teams were participated in different games and awarded.

Internship opportunities are also offered by some of the companies to potential candidates, which gives them exposure to the corporate world. The students are trained to enhance their soft skills, technical skills, communication skills, and employability skills.

Placement Process

• MGKVP Varanasi placement cell sends out invitations and brochures to potential recruiters.

• Companies interested in recruiting respond to the invitation and prepare for the MGKVP placement process.

• The placement cell and recruiters agree on dates for the placement drive. Slots are then allocated to each company, and the schedule is shared with students.

• Students interested in participating in the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith placement drive should register and submit their updated resumes and necessary documents.

• Recruiters visit MGKVP as per the schedule. They deliver a pre-placement talk to inform students about their company’s policies and norms.

• Recruiters conduct tests to assess the knowledge and skills of the shortlisted students. Students who clear the screening tests participate in a group discussion. Based on their performance in the discussion, students are further shortlisted.

• Shortlisted students attend a personal interview conducted by the recruiters. This could be a Technical Interview, or an HR Interview.

• Finally, selected candidates will receive job offers and must confirm their acceptance to join the company by the specified joining date.
