Assam University, Silchar offers B.Tech, BPA, BVA, BA LLB, B.Pharm, B.Voc, Integrated B.Sc. – M.Sc. And Integrated B.Sc. – B.Ed. Direction at UG diploma. Beyond the different distinguished academic departments, a student while choosing their dream college also considers the different facilities that any educational campus has to offer. It’s not only the academics that make a student a ‘student’. Rather, his/her development is also inspired by the opportunities that he/she will avail inside the campus.
Considering the infrastructural design of the campus, Assam University Infrastructure and Facilities has everything that a student needs for his/her all-round development. From an Innovation Club to Bioinformatics Centre, the varsity has almost everything to suffice every student’s needs.
Assam University’s Health Care Centre is managed by experienced Medical personnel, including a Lady Medical Officer. Recently, the University has introduced Medical insurance to every student. In addition to this, frequent health camps are organized on the campus by expert doctors from the Silchar Medical College. To refurbish the Health Care Centre, the University has also procured equipment like the X-4647 Ray Machine and has also set up a diagnostic library.
The University also has a gymnasium for both ladies and gents. To avail the facilities of the gym, interested students, along with faculty members and other staff, can enrol their names to the dedicated person in charge.
Assam University’s CIL was set up in 2007 with the help of the funding received from UGC. The laboratory houses modern and sophisticated instruments like the Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS), and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) among others. CIL’s main objective is to give instrumentation support to all the major Science departments of the University. However, the CIL also provides teaching support to the PG and IPP levels of the Science departments.
Since education is never limited to the four walls of the classroom, therefore games and sports have been an important centre of focus since the University’s inception in 1994. The University organises an Annual Social Meet every year. During this meet, along with the cultural activities, indoor and outdoor sports are also held. Currently, the University is a member of the Inter-University Sports Board of India. So far, various teams have participated in Zonal and All-India University tournaments and have also brought various laurels.
Although there are state transport bus services in the city, the University also runs eleven busses for the benefit of the students. Adding to this, there are three buses for the staff members of the University for easy transportation from the city to the campus and vice-versa.
The Rabindra (Central) library of the university houses numerous reference books, thesis, dissertations, along with other audio-visual documents. The library not only has print resources but also consists of a plethora of electronic resources like e-journals, and access to various online databases which contain millions of books, which are easily accessible to the bonafide members of the University. In addition to this, the WebOPAC facility of the library is available for the students.
Students aspiring to get placements in some of the best companies are given counselling services by the Assam University placement cell. Assam University, Silchar Placement Cell also organises workshops and lectures by corporate professionals and placement consultants to help the students advance their careers. Students are also helped in their preparation of resume/biodata/curriculum vitae, along with the placement brochure.
For a long time, the Assam University students have been offered good placement opportunities in both public and private sectors. The last couple of years saw the participation of many companies in the Assam University placement programme. Students from almost all the departments participate in these placement sessions.
Assam University placement cell also engages in creating a detailed Employers’ Database for each department. This helps the students to trace out employment opportunities in India as well as abroad.
Stage 1:Â Assam University Placement Cell sends out invitations to various companies by enclosing the placement brochure. Interested recruiters, after confirming the invitation, fix a date for initiating the process.
Stage 2: Students have to register for Assam University placements with the Placement Cell of the university. After this, they have to go through the various stages of selection tests, Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI).
Step 3: After qualifying the final round of Assam University placement process, they are finally selected and offered jobs.
