Institute of Medical Sciences

IMS is one of the six institutes of Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi. Established in 1960, the Institute of Medical Sciences is the medical school of the Banaras Hindu University and has three faculties (Medicine, Ayurveda & Dental Sciences). It has 33 departments of Modern Medicine, including 10 departments of super-specialties, four departments of Dentistry, eleven departments of Ayurveda and a school of Nursing.

The institution is approved by the Medical Council of India. The institute has been ranked 5 for Medical by NIRF in 2022. It offers medical and paramedical courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

According to BHU NIRF report 2023, the median package offered during BHU UG 5-year and PG 3-year placements 2022 stood at INR 15 LPA and INR 13.50 LPA, respectively. Earlier, the institute has released the NIRF report 2022. According to the NIRF report 2022, 10 MBBS students were placed during 2020 placements, whereas 128 students of PG courses were placed during 2021 placements. Further, the median package offered to MBBS students during 2020 placements was INR 14 LPA.
