B. Borooah College

Established in 1943, B. Borooah College is one of the earliest and prestigious co-educational colleges situated in Guwahati in the state of Assam, which was named after the most respected and prominent person of Assamese business Bholanath Borooah. This college grew under the circumstances of World War II. With the support of B. Borooah College Teacher’s Unit (BBCTU) which is a constituent unit of Assam College Teachers Unit (ACTU) the college has been carrying out various plans and programmes for the welfare and overall progress and development of the college and students as well. The college offers various courses from Arts and Science stream to the students. B. Borooah College is accredited with Grade ‘A’ by NAAC, funded by University Grants Commission (UGC) and is affiliated with Guwahati University. It offers undergraduate courses such as B.A., B.Sc., B.B.A. and postgraduate courses such as M.Sc.

B. Borooah College came into existence in the year 1943 and located in the city of Guwahati (Assam). It is accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade and affiliated to Gauhati University. B. Borooah College offers admissions into undergraduate courses of B.A, B.Sc, BBA and postgraduate course of M.Sc.

Students interested in applying for undergraduate courses shall be admitted directly through the merit of marks obtained in HSC qualifying examination.
To seek admissions they must have passed their HSC exam in a relevant stream.
Admissions in case of Master’s courses of Chemistry and Geography shall be based on entrance exam conducted by the college.
Selection of candidates to Master’s courses in Botany and Zoology shall be done through the merit of marks obtained in aggregate in bachelor’s degree.

College Scholarships

National Scholarship

National scholarships is a government initiative which was launched in 2008, to provide students with merit-based scholarships so that they can continue their studies without any difficulty. The eligibility criteria for the national scholarship at B.Borooah College is that the parent income should be less than 3,50,000 per year and the student has a minimum of 55% in Class 7.

Scholarships for minority communities

The objective of this scholarship is to achieve equality by providing scholarships to minority communities so that the course fees do not hamper a student’s wish to complete his or her study.

Ishan Uday Scholarship

The Ishan Uday Scholarship is an initiative of the UGC, Ministry of Education under the central government. Students from the North-East region of India who has completed Class 12 and wishes to pursue higher education can apply for this scholarship.

Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan Scholarship

As the name suggests, this scholarship at B.Borooah College is provided to students who are pursuing a course in Sanskrit. The number of scholarships provided each year is dependent on the availability of the funds.

Mother Language Scholarship

The mother language scholarship at B.Borooah College is provided to students who hail from Assam (non-Hindi speakers).

DST-Inspire

The department of science and technology (DST) under the government of India provides the scholarship INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) for courses in science and technology.

These scholarships are meant for students who belong to the SC, ST and OBC categories. The B.Borooah College scholarships for these students are a means of achieving equality for students who belong to different backgrounds and have limited or no access to quality education.
