Central Agricultural University(CAU) was established on 26th January 1993 by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Government of India. The mission of the University is to be a centre of excellence in teaching, research and extension education in the field of agriculture and allied sectors.

CAU Imphal offers admissions to 9 undergraduate, 45 postgraduate and 25 Ph.D. degree programs like B.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D., B.F.Sc, M.F.Sc, B.Tech, M.Tech, B.V.Sc, M.V.Sc. in the branches of agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, Community Science, Agricultural Engineering & Food Technology, and veterinary sciences & animal husbandry.

The candidate should have completed the 10 + 2 standard from a recognised board with Biology as a mandatory subject
The candidate should have scored an aggregate of a minimum of 45% marks

The candidate should have graduated in the relevant agricultural stream from a recognised university
The candidate should have scored an aggregate of a minimum of 50% marks

The candidate should possess a master’s degree in the relevant stream from a recognised university
The candidate should hold an aggregate of a minimum of 55% marks
There are three entry points for getting admission in Central Agricultural University Imphal.
Through State Nomination – All the 7 North Eastern States under the jurisdiction of CAU (Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya,  Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura) are given the opportunity to get admitted to CAU Imphal. Candidates can approach respective state departments of Agriculture, Horticulture and Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry for state Nomination.
85% of the total seats are allotted under State Nomination as per the reservation policy of the concerned states at the undergraduate level. There is no state nomination for PG and Ph.D. Programs.
Through ICAR AIEEAÂ – ICAR conducts the All India Entrance Examination for Admission (AIEEA) through the National Testing Agency, from which during counselling candidates may opt for Central Agricultural University, Imphal as their University Choice. 15% undergraduate seats are reserved for candidates from all over India through the CUET Entrance Exam strictly with ICAR reservation policy.
For Postgraduate and Ph.D. programs, 75% of the seats are selected through the University Entrance Test conducted by CAU Imphal and it is open for candidates all over India. 25% seats are reserved for candidates from all over India through the AIEEA Entrance Exam strictly with ICAR reservation policy.
Through Self-Financed Seat – Self-Financed programs are open for all candidates from all over India. CAU Imphal may either conduct an entrance test or selection may be based on the AIEEA score. The Self-Financed Program is available for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels in selected disciplines.
CAU Overall ranking by NIRF is 151 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023 and it was 151-200 out of 200 colleges in India in 2019. CAU Agriculture ranking by NIRF is 29 out of 40 colleges in India in 2023.

Library– The central library of CAU Imphal is equipped with books covering all subjects including both textbooks and reference books. The library also has a collection of reports, proceedings, abstracts & indexes, encyclopaedias, data books, National and international journals, and audio and visual resources. The library also has a separate reading room.
Laboratories– CAU Imphal has provided labs for different subjects for conducting practical experiments. Â The labs are well-organised and equipped with the necessary equipment. Lab technicians are also there to guide and help students.
Conference Hall– The conference hall is well equipped with all the advanced technology and facilities where all lectures, conferences, training sessions and guest lectures are conducted.
Sports facilities– Various sports facilities are provided by CAU Imphal for the students. The students can enjoy both indoor and outdoor games in a safe environment.
Hostels– The university provides separate hostels to boys and girls. The rooms are fully furnished and provide all the basic facilities to the students.
