Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi (DHSK) College, located in Dibrugarh, in Assam, is an aided co-educational institute. The college was established in 1945 as Dibrugarh College. Later in 1957, with generous donation by Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi towards the development of the college, the college was renamed as DHSK College. DHSK College is affiliated to Dibrugarh University and recognized by Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam and University Grants Commission (UGC).

The college offers several undergraduate courses in Arts and Science streams. Besides, the college offers imparts higher secondary courses in Arts and Science subjects and short-term professional courses in Computer Hardware & Maintenance and Fashion Designing. The college serves as a study center for Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU).

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. The CBCS curriculum was first implemented in my college during the academic year of 2019-2020, and as a result, the syllabus was at par with the latest requirements of University Grants Commission.

2. I chose this course because of its updated curriculum, which included in addition to papers in English literature, papers on Environmental Studies, Communicative English, and so on. Further, the obligatory generic elective, which was Philosophy in my case, aided in a better understanding of the philosophical discussions prevalent in my major course, i.e., English literature.

3. The curriculum was effective in the sense that much of the theoretical base, for instance Literary Criticism and Literary Theory, was covered in the final year. This is crucial so far as CUET-PG entrance is considered.

4. Teaching methods were effective as they offered a strong foundation in English literature. However, a constructive feedback could be offered when it comes to Assignments and In-semester tests.

Girls Hostel

The college has one girls’ hostel situated within the college campus. Admission to the girls’ hostel is governed by a strict code of conduct laid down by the college. Hostel seats are allotted at the time of admission strictly on the basis of merit. The hostel remains closed during summer and puja vacations. All orders are to maintain strict discipline as per the hostel rules, violation of which will invite strong action up to the extent of expulsion from the hostel as well as from the college. The three-storied building has well-furnished rooms and has the capacity of accommodating about 100 borders.

The College library has a total collection of 42500. The collection covers the text and reference on wide range of subject areas. The library has a rich collection of Sanskrit books, back volumes of journals and college magazines since its very first publication and 86 number of rare books. The library subscribes to e-journals through N-List e-journal consortia. N-List consortia offers access to 6000+ e-journals and 7,64000+ e-books through N-List and NDL.
