Recently, more than 35 students of LBC Kolkata participated in a 5k run at the Kolkata Police Half Marathon 2024.Lady Brabourne College, founded in July 1939 by the Government of Bengal, is a top women’s educational institution in India. It was named after Lord Brabourne’s wife, who was the Governor of Bengal for a short period. LBC Kolkata was ranked 94th by the NIRF in 2020.
Lady Brabourne College offers diploma courses in four different disciplines, including Computer Applications, Spanish Language, Multimedia and Animation, and Public Relations and Advertising. LBC Kolkata UG courses include BA, BA (H), B.Sc, and B.Sc (H) programmes. The PG courses include MA and M.Sc in various disciplines. The disciplines include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Philosophy, Hindi, Urdu, Persian, Sanskrit, English, Political Science and others. Lady Brabourne College offers undergraduate admission to students who have passed the 10+2 examination based on merit.
For postgraduate courses, admission is based on graduation marks for Calcutta University graduates, while students from other universities must take a postgraduate entrance test conducted by the University of Calcutta, Kolkata.

At postgraduate level, LBC offers Master’s programs in Geography, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Bengali, Political Science and English. Candidates must hold B.Sc in the concerned disciplines if they wish to apply for M.Sc courses at LBC. For M.A courses, candidates who have passed Bachelor’s in Arts with at least 50% aggregate marks are eligible to apply.
Admissions will be made as per the norms of the university. 60% of the total intake will be merit based and the admissions will be conducted by the university. For the remaining 40% seats, the college will conduct an entrance exam.

All prizes are awarded to the students at the Annual Prize Giving Ceremony which takes place as part of the Foundation Day celebrations of the college. Facilities and Infrastructure is one of the important aspects of a college. Students prefer to study in a college having good facilities and infrastructure for the overall well being of the student. Lady Brabourne College Facilities & Infrastructure ensures students not only learn their lesson with a modern day smart room but also students remain physically active by working out in the gymnasium. Lady Brabourne College facilities include a well equipped library, large and spacious hostel, computer lab, common room, hygienic canteen, gymnasium, a large auditorium, solar panel, rainwater harvesting unit and many more.
The Lady Brabourne College Hostel is located next to the College premises and can house over 250 girls. There are two blocks of buildings for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, with a visitor’s lounge, a boarders’ common room with media facilities, a Library, a Gymnasium, a dining room, a canteen, and a reprographic centre. Admission to hostels depends on merit, distance from hometown and on the reservation policy for SC, ST, OBC and Persons with Disability.
Lady Brabourne College’s Medical Unit schedules frequent weekly visits by a licenced medical practitioner to monitor the health of students, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff, as required.
The library is located on the first floor of the main campus. The library has three wings namely- Main Library, Library Annex and Electronic Library. The library remains accessible to students from 8 AM to 6 PM on Monday to Friday and 10:30 AM to 2: 30 PM on Saturday.
The college has an excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students.
With additional space recently assigned, the College canteen has been renovated to ensure improved hygienic standards and is designed to handle the mid-break rush efficiently.
The college has a good networking for alumni association.
The College not only aspires to academic excellence, but also to the holistic growth of its students. Students have access to three gymnasiums on the College campus, one in the newly built Roma Chaudhuri Building, one in the Student’s Common Room, and the third in the College Hostel, to ensure that they remain physically fit. Modern equipment and services are available in the gymnasiums.
Teachers and students can photocopy books, journals, and documents at the College’s three Reprographic Centers.
The College has its own air-conditioned auditorium with seating for about 350 students. It has state-of-the-art audio-visual capabilities, allowing it to host lectures, conventions, exhibitions, and cultural events. General classes are held in the auditorium if required.
The Career Counselling and Job Placement Committee of the College has been organizing various programmes for career development and job placements since 2002. In the session 2006—07 major IT/BPO organizations like Infosys, TCS, IBM, Cognizant (CTS), Tech Mahendra, Accenture and WIPRO conducted campus recruitment programmes for final year undergraduate students. 75 (seventy five) interested and eligible students from all streams have been selected for placements last year (2007) by these high profile companies. Infosys also initiated their Campus Ambassador programme both in 2006 and 2007 from among interested students. This year 3G, Satyam, TCS and IBM Daksh also recruited some students.
