University of Madras (also known as Madras University or UNOM) was established in 1857 as one of the oldest and most prominent universities in India. Madras University is ranked 50 and 65 in the ‘University’ and ‘Overall’ category, respectively, by the NIRF 2023. UNOM is a collegiate research university and has six campuses in the city: Chepauk, Marina, Guindy, Taramani, Maduravoyal and Chetpet. UNOM is accredited with an A++ grade by NAAC. Madras University admission 2024 is open for PG, PG Diploma, Diploma, and Certificate programs. The last date for registrations is June 30, 2024. Interested candidates can register online on the official website @unom.ac.in. Furthermore, TANCET 2024 scorecard is out now.
Madras University offers several courses in the PG curriculum in several disciplines. All the courses are offered as full-time regular courses. The duration of each PG course is 2 years but the MCA course requires 3 years to complete. To qualify the eligible criteria, students must complete a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university with the minimum required percentage.
Students who are willing to join Madras University for a professional course like MBA, MCA or M.Tech, need to appear in TANCET and obtain qualified marks which should meet or exceed the cutoff percentile demanded by the university. For other conventional courses, the university conducts entrance tests & candidates must secure valid marks to be selected.

Madras University offers some courses at Doctoral programs in a handful of specialisations. Some of the courses which are offered by the university at the research level, PhD, M.Phil & MD. All the courses are offered in regular, campus base mode, in part-time & full time both modes. The duration of PhD, MD & M.Phil courses is respectively 3 years, 2 years and 1 year. The minimum eligibility to pursue a doctoral program from Madras University is to have 60% marks in aggregate at the Master’s degree in the concerned subject from a recognised university. The selection will be granted based on TANCET/ UGC/ CSIR NET performance. Students who have a valid score in these entrances are exempted from the entrance tests conducted by the university.

To be eligible for a Doctoral program, students must pass a Master’s degree in the same field with 60% marks in aggregate from a recognised university.
Candidates need to appear in the entrance test conducted by the university followed by an interview session. Students who have secured a qualified score in TANCET or CSIR NET or UGC to be selected for a research-based program are exempted from the entrance test.
 Madras University offers numerous courses at Diploma, PG Diploma & Certificate courses in multiple disciplines, To be eligible for Diploma & Certificate courses, students must pass 10+2 level from a recognised board and for PG Diploma courses students should pass Graduation in any field from a recognised university. The admission will be made on the basis of merit secured in the past qualifying examination for Diploma & Certificate courses. For PG Diploma courses the university accepts a valid TANCET score.
