Maulana Azad College, Kolkata was established in 1924 and founded by Lord Lytton, the contemporary Governor of Bengal to promote Islamic learning and general education among the Muslim population. Maulana Azad College is accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC, recognised as a ‘Centre of Potential for Excellence’ by UGC, and designated as a ‘DBT-STAR College’ by MHRD. Maulana Azad College, Kolkata is affiliated with the University of Calcutta and offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses; BA Urdu Hons, Bcom Accounting and Finance, BA Persian, BSc Economics Hons, BA Arabic Hons, BA Persian Hons, MA English, MA Urdu respectively. In total, the college offers 22 undergraduate courses and 3 postgraduate programmes. Undergraduate admissions to Maulana Azad College Kolkata are based on 10+2 exam performance, while postgraduate admissions for MA and M.Sc courses are merit-based for Calcutta University (CU) students and admission-based for CU and non-CU candidates.
