Established in the year 1998, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a Central University. It takes its name after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Minister of Education, a freedom fighter in the independence era, and a scholar of Islam and Urdu literature. This institute comprises seven schools that are inclusive of 24 departments offering masters programmes, and research programmes at MPhil and PhD level. The Lucknow campus of MANUU offers admissions in PG programmes (MA) in Urdu, Arabic, Persian and English. It has established three polytechnic colleges based in Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Darbhanga. Also, it offers several academic programmes in the distance learning stream.
