NIT Rourkela admission is offered to various courses at UG, PG, and doctoral courses. Candidates need to fill out the application form and submit the application fee to the admission process at NIT Rourkela. Before applying for NIT Rourkela admissions the candidates should appear for the entrance examination.
For NIT Rourkela admission in the B.Tech and B.Arch courses, candidates must appear for the JEE Mains examination. NIT Rourkela admissions are based on the entrance examination and merit. The Chief warden is the head of the hostel organization. He is assisted in his administrative responsibilities by the Wardens. Warden is the administrative head of each hostel. Wardens are assisted by Assistant Wardens. Each hostel have their own Hall Working Committees. The Working Committees are composed of General Secretary, Maintenance Secretary, Mess Secretary, Environment Secretary, Cultural Secretary and Games & Sports Secretary. The committee decides the pattern and the pace of life of each Hall.

The institute health centre is headed by Dr. Champak Bhattacharya and has three regular doctors. It is attached to the Apollo Pharmacy that runs 24*7 catering to students and staff members’ medical needs. There is a facility of the ambulance to attend to emergencies.
The college has Gym facility for the students.
The Biju Patnaik Central Library of NIT Rourkela is named after the founding Chairman of the Board of Governors of REC Rourkela. The library has a robust collection of print and electronic resources and supports research activities of students, faculty and research scholars.
NIT Rourkela has a Football-Hockey stadium- Dilip Tirckey Stadium. The stadium has a gymnasium with all modern facilities and has two instructors to help the students. The institute also has a Sachin Tendulkar Cricket Ground, a basketball court and two tennis courts.
NIT Rourkela offers separate swimming pool facilities for male and female students. Separate swimming coaches are available for men and women. The men’s swimming pool has all the necessary facilities to conduct international-level competitions.
The campus has a Post Office. The post office is located near the new substation and works on all weekdays from 7.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. and from 9.00 A.M. to 2.00 P.M. on Saturdays.
The institute has a State Bank of India branch. The application forms for various national level exams, such as CAT, JEE and GATE, are made available in this bank. The SBI has 2 ATMs- one near the hostel area and the other one located near the main gate premises.
The college has Wi-Fi facility for the students and staff.
The college has good networking for the alumni association.

NIT Rourkela has three canteens and a campus café open on all working days. The calorie canteen and SLR canteen are located between the Audio-Visual Hall and CSE department. The hexagon canteen is located beside the hostels frequently visited by hostelers.
The college has excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students.
NIT Rourkela campus has an air-conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of more than 1000. The institute also has a Lecture Gallery Complex with different galleries along with 12 conference rooms and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 300.
NIT Rourkela concluded the placements for the batch passed out in 2023. As per the report, the participating recruiters presented 1,326 job offers to the Class of 2023. The highest and average package offered during NIT Rourkela placements in 2023 was INR 83.60 LPA and INR 13.89 LPA, respectively. Further, the NIT Rourkela CSE average package offered in 2023 stood at INR 24.07 LPA. The top recruiters of NIT Rourkela in 2023 included Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Wipro, Deloitte, etc.
