Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata is a state university established in 1962. RBU Kolkata was named after Rabindranath Tagore with a mission to take forward his thoughts and ideas through the courses of Humanities, Social Science, Art and Culture. Courses at RBU Kolkata are offered at diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in the field of Arts, Fine Arts and Visual Arts.
RBU Kolkata is approved by UGC, NAAC and AIU. RBU Kolkata offers BA(Hons), B.Ed, BFA and B.Lib.I.Sc at undergraduate level whereas at postgraduate level RBU Kolkata offers MA, M.Phil, MSW, MFA and M.Lib.I.Sc. RBU Kolkata also offers distance learning programmes as well as full-time programmes.

Rabindra Bharati University admission 2024 is primarily merit-based. The university considers the merit of the candidates in the qualifying exam for admission. For some of the courses, the university also conducts an entrance exam. RBU Kolkata offers courses at UG, PG, and doctoral levels in diverse streams such as Education, Social Science, Languages, Arts, etc. RBU also has a Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) that offers distance education programmes. Currently, the University offers 10+ programmes through Distance Education under the recognition of theDistance Education Council (DEC).

RBU Kolkata admission process includes registration, selection and admission confirmation. Candidates applying for any of the UG or PG course are required to follow all the steps. Below are the steps to get a seat in Rabindra Bharati University:
Candidates can apply online for the course of their choice. Aspirants meeting the eligibility criteria are required to create an account to login the student’s portal for registration.
Once the candidate has applied for the course of their choice, the performance in the qualifying exam is evaluated for admission. The university considers the merit in the last qualifying exam for admission to most of the courses. An admission test is conducted for MA Human Rights and Human Development and Mass Communication & Videography as per an unofficial source. The university releases a selection list on the official website of the university to announce the names of the shortlisted aspirants.
After completion of the selection process, selected aspirants need to come for document verification. They need to report at the university with all the specified documents. Once the verification is done, aspirants are required to pay the course fee to confirm their seat in the university.

Rabindra Bharati University Library system consists of the Central Library, Sangeet Bhavan Library and departmental libraries attached to academic departments. Central Library spreads over four storeys and has a collection of more than 120500 books, 2550 bound volume journals, 800 theses, conference proceedings, reports and rare books. The library subscribes to 250 print journals. The library also has online journals and e-books.Library hours from Monday to Friday are 10.30 AM to 8.30 PM and 10.30 AM to 5.30 PM on Saturdays.
Rabindra Bharati University has five students’ hostels at present, two for the boys (one for SC/ST boys) and three for the girls.
