About SNDT Women’s University
SNDT Women’s University is India’s and Southeast Asia’s first women’s university. Maharshi Dr Dhondo Keshav Karve established the university in 1916 for the noble cause of women’s education. This university’s first five female graduates were in 1921. The university’s headquarters are in Mumbai’s Churchgate Campus, and the university’s other two campuses are in Mumbai’s Juhu and Pune’s Karve Road. The university has evolved into a multidisciplinary institution with a wide range of professional, technical, and liberal arts programmes ranging from K12 to PhD. SNDTWU is exceptional in terms of jurisdiction. While most universities in the country can only have state jurisdiction, SNDTWU can affiliate colleges/institutions anywhere in India with the state government’s permission.
SNDT Women’s University is dedicated to empowering women via education, particularly higher education, and appropriate courses in both formal and non-formal streams. The university is dedicated to meeting changing socio-economic demands through vocational and professional courses for women, based on human values and deliberate social responsibility. The university believes in achieving excellence through ‘Quality in Every Activity.’ ‘An awakened woman is a source of endless strength,’ says the university’s motto. SNDTWU has acknowledged six institutions for PhD research. SNDTWU employs 1100 teaching and non-teaching staff members and serves 50,000 students in seven states and one union territory.
SNDT Women’s University has completed 100+ years of education. According to the Week-Hansa Research rating of 2020, SNDT Women’s University is placed 32nd among India’s multidisciplinary universities and 4th in Western India. During the ‘Best Universities EduRank 2020’, EduRank ranked SNDT Women’s University 9th out of 12 in Mumbai, 20th out of 53 in Maharashtra, 233rd out of 876 in India, 2034th out of 5829 in Asia, and 5751st out of 14,160 in the World.
